Uiraçu

Uiraçu Institute is a private, nonprofit technical-scientific organization dedicated to preserving, protecting, conserving, and restoring Atlantic Forest ecosystems. Based in the Serra Bonita region, it maintains Conservation Units and supports the management and monitoring of protected areas. The institute also welcomes researchers from around the world and works with scientific institutions and communities to expand knowledge of the region’s biodiversity.

Its activities are organized into three permanent programs. Environment Education engages local communities, visitors, and staff through awareness-building, training, and efforts to reduce risks to nature. Ecosystem Defense focuses on conserving the Atlantic Forest, including the creation of Conservation Units and the care of protected areas. Scientific Research develops projects with researchers and partner institutions to deepen understanding of the biome.

Uiraçu’s actions include monitoring harpy eagle nests, protecting water sources and supporting clean water, producing scientific knowledge, training qualified teams, and engaging local communities. The institute also promotes citizenship, social responsibility, and public policies, aiming to create positive social and environmental impact in the region.
