About Survivors of Bereavement
Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SoBS) is the only UK-based organization dedicated to providing peer-led support for adults affected by suicide loss. Founded in 1991 by Alice Middleton MBE, SoBS offers a compassionate and confidential environment where individuals over the age of 18 can share their unique experiences and emotions related to bereavement. The organization focuses on fostering connections through support groups, online virtual forums, a national helpline, and email assistance, ensuring that no one grieves alone.
SoBS stands apart by emphasizing a self-help approach, operating with a network of over 340 volunteers — many of whom have experienced suicide loss themselves. They help to guide others through the complex grief process, addressing feelings of guilt and isolation that often accompany such tragedies. In addition to direct support services, SoBS collaborates with various charities and organizations to enhance public awareness surrounding suicide, advocating for better access to resources for those in need. With an unwavering commitment to community and healing, SoBS is a vital resource for bereaved adults across the UK.
