About Universidad de Magallanes
UMAG — Universidad de Magallanes — stands at the edge of the world, and leads from it.
Founded on October 26, 1981, as the heir of Chile's Technical University of the State (UTE, est. 1961), UMAG is a public state university and has grown into the southernmost university on the planet — a title that's not just geographic, but symbolic. To be here is to push further than most dare to go.
With its main campus in Punta Arenas, Chile, UMAG extends across the entire Magallanes region and reaches into Antarctica itself, bringing world-class education to one of Earth's most remote and extraordinary frontiers. Its faculties span Engineering, Health Sciences, Education, Social Sciences, and Economic & Juridical Sciences — alongside a School of Medicine and a Center for Technological Education — offering academic programs as broad and ambitious as the territory it calls home.
But UMAG is more than a university. It's a living institution — one that drives regional research, champions cultural and sporting life, and stands firmly behind environmental sustainability and human rights. Through its Centers for Research and Regional Studies, it doesn't just study the world; it actively shapes it.
At the bottom of the map, UMAG proves that knowledge has no limits.
