About Umatilla River
The Umatilla River Basin website presents the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) Fish Habitat Program’s work to restore and protect aquatic habitat in the Umatilla River Basin of northeastern Oregon. The basin includes the 89-mile Umatilla River, a tributary of the Columbia River. The program focuses on improving functional floodplains, river channels, and watershed processes to support sustainable habitat for aquatic species identified as First Foods.
Its work includes salmon recovery and fish habitat restoration projects, such as floodplain reconnection, in-stream enhancements, and improvements to fish passage. The site provides information about featured projects, project locations, maps, media, annual reports, project data, assessments, and action plans. It also shares measurable restoration results, including improved stream flow, restored floodplain and riparian areas, created pool habitat, installed in-stream structures, and removed or improved barriers. Visitors can explore project information and learn about the program’s goals, activities, and progress. The work is supported by public agencies, watershed organizations, conservation programs, and landowners.
