Unisson Disability is a brand that has a rich history dating back to 1924. Founded by Dr. Lorna Hodgkinson, a visionary and dedicated Australian who was the first woman to receive a Doctorate from Harvard University, Unisson Disability aims to provide meaningful support and assistance to individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Initially named the Sunshine Institute, the organization started as a residential school for six children with intellectual disabilities. Over the years, the institute evolved into the Lorna Hodgkinson Sunshine Home, a non-profit organization that expanded its services to support adults with disabilities. With a strong commitment to moving away from institutional living, Unisson Disability has transitioned towards community-based living, offering various services and supports.
Today, they cater to over 700 individuals across Sydney, the Central Coast, and Hunter regions. In 2017, the brand underwent a rebranding process and became Unisson Disability. The new name reflects the organization's evolution, values, and its unique approach to disability support.
Despite the name change, Unisson Disability's dedication to improving the lives of individuals with disabilities remains unwavering
