About The University Star
The University Star, also known as The Star, is the student-run news organization at Texas State University, making it one of the oldest publications in the state. With a rich history dating back to its first issue in February 1911, The Star has been providing news and information on topics concerning the university and the San Marcos community. As a student-led publication, The Star upholds the highest standards of journalistic ethics, focusing on accuracy, impartiality, honesty, integrity, inclusivity, fairness, transparency, and accountability.
The Star is located on the Texas State University campus and operates independently from the university, allowing student journalists to decide the content they cover. Covering a wide range of topics, The Star features articles on health care, immigration, transportation, sports, and local government. In addition to print editions, The Star also has a website, a subscription e-newsletter, and a strong presence on social media platforms.
The organization actively engages with the community through volunteerism and events like the Star Stories and Soapbox Soundoff. With professional memberships and numerous awards and honors, The University Star remains dedicated to providing informative and engaging news to the Texas State University community
