Recognized as an accomplished all-round mountaineer, Wärthl began climbing at 16 and went on to climb peaks across South America, the Pamir and Pakistan. In 1994, he reached the summit of K2 without supplemental oxygen, becoming the youngest climber to do so. He completed his mountain guide training in 1998 and continues to work across climbing, ice, ski mountaineering and expeditions.

Today, Wärthl is particularly active as a speaker, sharing more than 30 years of experience and a substantial archive of expedition photography. His carefully prepared presentations combine images and sound, are delivered live using digital technology, and can be tailored to suit an event or audience. They are available for conferences, company events, festivals and private occasions. His talk “Everest Is Everywhere” focuses on motivation and team building, drawing on his experience in extreme sports and leading large expeditions. Wärthl also offers guided mountain experiences, working with clients toward their chosen goals.
