About 魚津水族館公式
Uozu Aquarium, Japan's oldest existing aquarium, boasts a rich history that extends over a century. Established in 1913, it initially opened as part of the exhibition for the Toyama Prefectural Union Fair, making it Japan's first aquarium on the Sea of Japan coast. The aquarium is dedicated to showcasing the diverse aquatic life of Toyama Bay, including unique species such as the glowing Matsu-kasa fish, first discovered here.
Today, the third iteration of Uozu Aquarium, which opened in 1981, features innovative exhibits like Japan's first full acrylic underwater tunnel, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the aquatic environment. Its core themes include the exploration of the ecosystem from the Northern Alps to the depths of the Sea of Japan. In 2013, the aquarium underwent a significant renovation, further emphasizing local biodiversity and global environmental issues.
As a popular attraction for both residents and tourists, Uozu Aquarium continues to be a vital educational resource and a point of interest for researchers and families alike.
