Upod is a free privacy-focused service that helps people manage their choices about how websites use their data. Developed as an initiative of Utonomy and the independent Dutch foundation Stichting Nederlandse Datakluis (SNDK), it aims to give individuals greater control over their information online. Users create a personal data profile and set their cookie preferences once. The Upod browser extension then detects supported cookie banners and applies those choices automatically, reducing repeated pop-ups. Users can review and change their preferences at any time.
Upod also lets people choose what profile details, such as age category, gender, and town, they share with websites. The service says it adjusts details to help protect anonymity, and that personal data is not sold or shared without the userโs decision. SNDK stores data securely in the Netherlands and is described as an official EU data intermediation service. Upod currently works with participating websites, including Hart van Nederland and Shownieuws, while its cookie consent agent can handle banners across websites through the extension.
