About Uprise
UPRISE is a European Union-funded research project investigating how ultrafine particles and micro- and nanoplastics may affect fetal development, pregnancy outcomes, and long-term health. These tiny airborne pollutants can come from sources such as traffic, industry, and plastic waste, and may be difficult to detect despite their potential impact. UPRISE focuses on whether exposure during pregnancy contributes to preterm birth and other health complications that could increase the risk of disease later in life.
Bringing together expertise in environmental science, medicine, and public health, the project aims to build scientific evidence about these risks and support informed policies to protect pregnant people and their unborn children. UPRISE also shares research findings and resources, publishes project updates, and engages communities through initiatives such as its Parent Advisory Board and Stakeholder Advisory Board. By involving partners and stakeholders, the project seeks to make research relevant to public health and future generations. Funded through Horizon Europe, UPRISE promotes cleaner air, healthier pregnancies, and evidence-based action for a healthier future.
