About Urban Coyote Research
Introducing the Cook County Coyote Project, also known as the Urban Coyote Research Program, a comprehensive study of coyotes in Chicago metropolitan areas led by Director Dr. Stan Gehrt. This ongoing research initiative, started in 2000, aims to bridge gaps in urban coyote ecology knowledge and management.
Through live-capturing, collaring, and monitoring a subset of coyotes, the project delves into their behaviors in urban settings, interactions with wildlife, domestic animals, and humans. The project provides valuable insights on urban coyotes, how to prevent conflicts, and offers glimpses into the lives of tracked animals. By sharing research findings, the project fosters public education on coyote ecology to cultivate coexistence and mutual respect.
The project's focus extends to managing conflicts and understanding the nuances of interactions, separating true threats from peaceful cohabitation. Visit the website for in-depth information and to contribute to the collective understanding of coyotes in urban environments
