UVU Bio

UVU Bio is a non-profit organisation working to advance a thriving, inclusive bioeconomy across Africa. It connects regions, talent and innovation, helping transform scientific research into practical solutions, businesses and jobs. Its work spans South Africa and Rwanda, with open-access biotechnology laboratories in Cape Town and Kigali. The Cape Town site also hosts the Bioeconomy Skills Centre, which delivers specialised training.

UVU Bio offers skills development, product development and innovation support, business incubation and acceleration, and ecosystem development. Its programmes equip people with biotechnology expertise, help researchers develop products, and support biotech startups from early concepts through to market entry. Entrepreneurs and researchers can access high-end laboratory equipment and resources, while partnerships and industry collaboration help strengthen the wider biotech sector.

Through mentorship, training, incubation and access to facilities, UVU Bio supports individuals and businesses seeking to contribute to Africa’s bioeconomy. Entrepreneurs, investors and organisations can also partner with the organisation to promote innovation, create jobs and build a more sustainable bioeconomy across the continent.
