About Virginia American Revolution 250 Commemoration
The Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission is dedicated to commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the Revolutionary War, and the independence of the United States in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Established by the General Assembly in 2020, this commission aims to celebrate and honor the complex, diverse, and promising history of Virginia as a pivotal location during the Revolutionary era.
By focusing on the historical events of 1775 and 1776, the Virginia Semiquincentennial embraces an inclusive narrative that includes Native American, European, African, and American perspectives, representing both Patriots and Loyalists. Their primary goal is to convene a Commonwealth-wide commemoration, bringing together hundreds of partners and representatives from various historical sites, stories, and communities that define Virginia.
Through education, exhibits, historical sites, artifacts, and special events, the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission invites everyone to join them in celebrating this momentous occasion across the Commonwealth of Virginia.
