Vaahteramäen Perhekoti

Vaahteramäen Pienkoti is a family-style child welfare home in a natural setting about a ten-minute drive from central Viitasaari, Finland. It provides seven places for school-age children and young people in a basic-level residential care setting, for either short- or long-term needs. The home also offers aftercare for young people up to age 25, support-person services, and supported or supervised visits.

Its approach combines safety, care, clear routines and boundaries with listening, encouragement and respect. Children are supported in taking an active role in decisions about their lives, while their biological families are treated respectfully and included. Staff include social workers, a nurse and practical nurses, with access to a psychotherapist for consultation.

Everyday life includes shared activities, exercise and opportunities to explore the surrounding nature. The home helps each child find a suitable hobby, with options ranging from local sports and crafts to fishing and outdoor activities. Children can also pursue motor activities using the home’s vehicles and practice facilities, with guidance in vehicle maintenance.
