Väinö Tannerin säätiö

Väinö Tanner Foundation is a Finnish foundation established in 1961 to promote equality and democracy by supporting talent, the arts, and diverse public debate in Finland and internationally. Its work brings together cultural initiatives and civic discussion, creating opportunities for artists, writers, and other creative professionals.

The foundation awards the Tanner Prize every two years to an individual or community whose work advances its mission in Finnish society and culture. It also runs a podcast production support competition, helping selected teams develop and promote podcast series, and offers residencies in the historic village of Mazzano Romano near Rome. These residencies welcome writers, translators, visual artists, craftspeople, designers, and music-makers.

Through seminars, public events, and the Sivistysklubi discussion series, the foundation encourages conversation on culture and society. It also makes Finnish, European, and Helsinki history accessible through materials exploring the life and times of statesman Väinö Tanner, including diaries, memoirs, images, videos, and comics. Together, these activities connect historical understanding with contemporary debate and creative work.
