Vaka Eiva is the International Outrigger Canoe Festival of the Cook Islands, hosted each November on Rarotonga by the Cook Islands Canoeing Association. Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2026, the festival brings together local and international paddlers for a week of racing, culture and community. The 2026 event runs from 20 to 27 November in Avarua, with races designed for a wide range of ages and abilities, from junior paddlers in Muri Lagoon to masters competing on open water.
Participants can enter four race formats: the Round Raro Relay, a changeover race around the island; V6 Irons, a direct race for crews of six; solo V1 and OC1 events; and mixed-crew races. Vaka Eiva also offers event information, including schedules, courses, rules, safety guidance and results, as well as volunteer opportunities and a service to help solo paddlers find a crew. Visitors can access trip-planning information about accommodation, activities and vehicle hire. The festivalโs online store sells apparel, accessories and limited-edition anniversary merchandise.
