Valerie Green

Valerie Green is a Canadian author whose writing explores the people, places, and history of British Columbia, particularly Victoria and Vancouver Island. A journalistically trained storyteller and immigrant to Canada since 1968, she has written both nonfiction and fiction, bringing careful research and vivid detail to stories of the region and its communities.

Her nonfiction books include Dunmora: The Story of a Heritage Manor House on Vancouver Island, If These Walls Could Talk: Victoria’s Houses from the Past, Above Stairs: Social Life in Upper-Class Victoria, 1843–1918, and the memoir Embrace the Journey: A Care Giver’s Story. Green also writes historical fiction. Providence, the first book in The McBride Chronicles, follows Jane, an English orphan, and Gideon, a Scottish fisherman’s son, as their separate journeys lead them to Victoria in 1862. The series traces their family story against the backdrop of British Columbia history. Her other featured title, From Primitive Shack to Premier’s Wife: The Constance Davie Story, presents another account rooted in the region’s past.
