Vancouver Aikikai is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to practicing and sharing Aikido in Vancouver, British Columbia. Affiliated with the Canadian Aikido Federation and the British Columbia Aikido Federation, the dojo offers a welcoming community for people interested in this traditional Japanese martial art. Founded in 1925 by Morihei Ueshiba, Aikido emphasizes harmony, balance, and personal development, using an attacker’s energy rather than relying on aggression.
The dojo holds classes at Renfrew Community Centre, 2929 East 22nd Avenue, on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 8:30 to 10:00 p.m. Its instructors each bring at least 20 years of Aikido practice and more than 10 years of teaching experience. Newcomers are welcome to observe or try a class, and their first class and first month of practice are free. Regular membership costs $55 per month, while visiting practitioners from other clubs can drop in for $10; out-of-town visitors are welcome to train free. The club also shares news, training tips, and community updates.
