Varða

Varða is an independent Icelandic think tank focused on national security and resilience. As a self-governing foundation based in Reykjavík, it works to expand knowledge and encourage public discussion of security and defence issues through research, analysis, publishing and events. Its reports examine topics including public preparedness, security threats, defence policy and the resources needed to address emerging challenges.

Varða also publishes a twice-yearly magazine on national security and international affairs, available online and in print, providing a forum for discussion and exchange of views. For English-speaking readers, The Varða Briefing offers a regular overview of developments in Icelandic security and defence, explaining what has happened, why it matters and what may come next. The organisation shares news, reports and analysis through its website and email newsletters, and offers subscriptions to its magazine.
