VARIS is a specialist nature conservation and landscape ecology consultancy based in Göttingen, Germany. Its team supports public authorities, businesses and private clients in protecting and sustainably developing natural habitats, combining detailed ecological assessment with practical, project-ready advice.

The firm conducts surveys of animal and plant species and habitats, including amphibians and reptiles, birds, insects, mammals, vegetation and biotopes. Its services include biological expert reports, species protection assessments, monitoring, habitat potential analyses, evaluations of conservation value, and recommendations for mitigation, compensation and CEF measures. VARIS also provides ecological construction supervision, helping identify sensitive species and habitats, implement protective measures and meet relevant legal requirements during building projects.

In addition to consulting, VARIS offers bird-focused nature education by request, including guided walks in the South Lower Saxony region. These outings introduce participants to local birdlife, identification and behaviour. The firm also undertakes projects involving wind power, ground-mounted solar installations, research and monitoring, and conservation assessments. Its approach aims to balance ecological responsibilities with the practical and economic needs of each project.
