Varsity Jiu-Jitsu

Varsity Jiu-Jitsu is a professional martial arts academy in Monterey Park, Los Angeles, offering structured Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training for beginners, experienced practitioners, competitors, and children. Its teaching approach emphasizes clear instruction, connected concepts, technical fundamentals, and purposeful practice, helping students understand how techniques work and progress at their own pace. Beginners receive step-by-step coaching and a controlled introduction to training, while advanced students can refine their skills and decision-making. Competition training provides higher-intensity practice and technical feedback for experienced athletes preparing to compete.

The academy is led by founder and head coach Isaac Doederlein, an IBJJF Black Belt World Champion, two-time Brasileiro Champion, and European Champion. Its coaching team includes co-founder James Goh, a second-degree black belt, as well as coaches specializing in adult and children’s instruction. Varsity also offers kids’ classes focused on Jiu-Jitsu skills, coordination, discipline, confidence, and resilience. The academy promotes a friendly, clean training environment, offers classes six days a week, and invites prospective students to try a free introductory class.
