About Vegan Street Food
Vegan Street Food Chicago is a plant-based dining group featuring Penelope’s Vegan Taqueria and Cafe Mas. Founded in 2017 by Chef Juan Lisandro and Paloma Ramirez, the group began as a pop-up stand serving vegan Mexican street food. It grew into Penelope’s Vegan Taqueria, described as Chicago’s first plant-based taqueria and bar, with a focus on tacos and street-style Mexican cuisine.
Its menu offers authentic plant-based takes on Mexican dishes, alongside Mexican beer and cocktails made with mezcal and tequila. Cafe Mas is also part of the group and serves an entirely plant-based menu complemented by specialty coffee drinks. Together, the venues bring vegan food and drink to several Chicago locations, including addresses on West Chicago Avenue, North Clark Street, and West Foster Avenue.
With its emphasis on Mexican-inspired street food and plant-based dining, Vegan Street Food Chicago offers guests options ranging from casual tacos to coffee specialties, all within a vegan-focused restaurant group
