Vegional GmbH develops vegan foods made from lupins, with a focus on sustainable production and regional processing. The initiative brings together cheesemaking expertise from Johannes Eberle of Käserei Muolen and Peter Egger and Sämi Moser of Mooser Chäsi in Istighofen. They see lupins, a legume that grows well in the region, as a versatile local ingredient and a way to offer an additional choice alongside conventional dairy products—not simply to replace them.
Vegional’s products are crafted in commercial cheesemaking facilities, combining traditional production skills with the development of plant-based alternatives. Its range includes Lupighurt, a vegan lupin-based product. The company introduced its product to the public at WEGA in 2022 and subsequently began sales. Production has faced challenges with the lupin mill, so the team has continued working with a smaller mill while the equipment is being upgraded. Vegional’s approach centers on making regional ingredients into practical vegan foods and expanding local food offerings through careful processing and product development.
