About Vélotextes
Vélotextes – Miscellanées vélocipédiques is a French-language digital collection devoted to cycling history, literature, travel and culture. Through articles, archival documents and curated reading lists, the site explores how bicycles have shaped transport, tourism, sport and social life. Its material ranges from early velocipede accounts and vintage cycling magazines to stories about touring, racing, bicycle design and debates over road use.
Visitors can discover historical writing on figures such as Vélocio, Charles Terront and Major Taylor, alongside accounts of cycle journeys through France and beyond. The collection also highlights unusual machines, including recumbent bicycles, tandems, trailers and early cargo-cycle ideas. Dedicated sections bring together material on cycling competitions, mountain routes, cycling-related social issues and graphic storytelling.
Vélotextes presents and shares digitized historical resources, including issues of Le Cycliste and other periodicals, with references to archival sources and related projects. It also invites contributions and points readers toward events, podcasts and cycling communities.
