VERDA

VERDA Foundation is a Czech nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students from the Roma community through education. Founded 25 years ago, it believes that learning is an effective way to improve opportunities and address difficult social circumstances. Although its work began with students in Brno, VERDA now receives applications from across the Czech Republic.

The foundation provides scholarships to talented pupils and students at vocational schools, secondary schools, higher vocational colleges and universities. Awards are based on Roma origin and academic performance, with the amount reflecting a student’s grades and stage of study. VERDA also supports apprentices, alongside students pursuing academic qualifications. Many recipients receive assistance over several years.

Its work extends beyond financial aid. Students can access career guidance, consultations with staff and motivational gatherings during the school year. The foundation shares application guidance and student stories, and collaborates with the Albatros Foundation to broaden its support. VERDA is sustained by donors and volunteer board members, keeping operating costs low so that scholarships remain its priority.
