Vertical Adventures

Vertical Adventures is a California climbing school and guiding company founded in 1983 by climber and author Bob Gaines. With more than 40 years of experience, the company provides professional rock climbing instruction, personalized guiding, and outdoor education for beginners, families, gym climbers, and experienced climbers. Its AMGA-certified guides lead private and small-group climbs in Joshua Tree National Park, Tahquitz and Suicide Rock near Idyllwild, and Lake Tahoe’s Donner Summit, selecting destinations according to seasonal conditions.

Guests can book half-day or full-day guided climbs, available seven days a week, or take structured outdoor courses designed to develop skills and confidence. Instruction ranges from beginner movement techniques to anchors, lead climbing, and self-rescue, with small groups supporting hands-on learning. Climbs and courses take place in real outdoor environments and can be combined for a more tailored experience. Technical equipment, including climbing shoes, ropes, helmets, and harnesses, is provided. Vertical Adventures emphasizes safety, local knowledge, and accessible experiences for a range of ages and abilities, with family participation available subject to supervision and safety guidelines.
