About Verulam Angling Club
Founded in 1934, Verulam Angling Club is one of the UK’s largest angling clubs, with more than 2,000 members. It provides access to a broad range of fisheries across Hertfordshire and surrounding counties, catering to anglers seeking relaxed days outdoors, personal-best catches, competitive matches or family-friendly fishing.
The club’s waters include rivers, lakes, gravel pits and canals for coarse fishing, alongside dedicated trout fisheries for fly-fishing. Members can fish throughout the year, and selected venues offer free night fishing. Guest access is available at many locations, while discounted junior memberships help welcome younger anglers to the sport.
Verulam’s match section runs a year-round programme that includes club championships, charity events and a summer evening league for anglers of different abilities. Dedicated fishery managers and volunteer bailiffs care for the waters, with members encouraged to contribute through working parties or administrative support. Facilities include toilets at most stillwaters and an Anglers’ Retreat at Riverside Road, offering hot drinks and modern amenities.
