Founded in 1988, the Itä-Uudenmaan ja Porvoonjoen vesien- ja ilmansuojeluyhdistys ry. is a nonprofit association working to promote the protection of water and air in Eastern Uusimaa and the Porvoonjoki river catchment area. It serves its members as an expert and collaborative organization and is a member of the Finnish Water Protection Association.
The association combines research, planning, monitoring, environmental projects and education. Its fieldwork includes electrofishing, test-net fishing and surveys of bottom-dwelling organisms. It prepares management and use plans for fishing waters, supports waterway restoration projects and monitors their results. The organization also assesses the effects of different activities on water bodies.
Its project work addresses environmental and nature conservation issues, including current initiatives such as ACWA LIFE and the Uusimaa Water Restoration Network. Recent coastal work includes restoration planning for bays in Sipoo and Porvoo, supported by catchment-area and dragonfly surveys and drone imaging. Through research, practical planning and cooperation, the association supports efforts to improve local aquatic environments and build environmental awareness.
