Vesterålen Matfest

Mat i Vesterålen is a regional food festival celebrating the Arctic food traditions, culinary culture and local producers of Vesterålen, Norway. Formerly known as Vesterålen Matfestival, it brings together food-related businesses and communities through events held across all municipalities in the region. The festival aims to strengthen local identity and pride while showcasing the area’s food, culture and experiences.

Its program includes food events and markets, offering local food businesses opportunities to present their work and connect with visitors. The organization also promotes recruitment to food-related professions and collaborates with students from the food studies program in Melbu, involving them in festival activities. In 2026, Mat i Vesterålen plans events from September 11 to 22, including a collaboration with Vesterålen Vinfestival and a large food market in Stokmarknes on September 12, marking the town’s 250th anniversary as a trading post. Supported by sponsors and local municipalities, Mat i Vesterålen works to connect and promote the region’s food community.
