Vexil Systems develops autonomous drone technology designed to restore radio communications in terrain where hills, forests, and other obstructions block signals. Its system carries a radio repeater to an elevated position, creating a temporary relay between separated teams without requiring permanent infrastructure. The intended users include search-and-rescue teams and fire crews operating in remote or difficult-to-reach areas.
Vexil’s first prototype, Aegis, has flown, landed, and demonstrated the relay concept, including VHF-to-UHF repeating. The company is developing Hermes, a second-generation aircraft designed for longer-range missions and extended flight time. Vexil says Hermes is intended to fly autonomously, fold for backpack transport, and land on suitable high ground to act as a communications link.
The company is also developing Relay, ground-control software for planning and managing missions without an internet connection. Planned capabilities include reviewing satellite imagery, assessing potential landing locations, checking aircraft readiness, and supporting two aircraft. Vexil invites inquiries about partnerships and field trials.
