The Verein der Freunde historischer Luftfahrzeuge e.V. is a volunteer association founded in 1991 by aviation enthusiasts in Mönchengladbach, Germany. Its central mission is to preserve the historic Junkers Ju 52 and share its history with the public. The association’s aircraft, HB-HOY, is a CASA 352 built in Spain in 1949 and restored in Switzerland. After years in service, it was permanently grounded in 2016 and is now displayed at the Hugo Junkers Hangar at Mönchengladbach Airport.
The association presents the Ju 52’s story, technical details and place in aviation history through online information and an exhibition dedicated to aircraft pioneer Hugo Junkers. Visitors can see HB-HOY up close, explore the hangar and attend public guided tours. The group also welcomes people interested in Junkers and the Ju 52, inviting them to learn about its work and get involved. While the aircraft is no longer available for flights, the association helps keep its legacy alive through preservation, historical interpretation and public engagement.
