Vida Livre is a Brazilian nonprofit association dedicated to social assistance and biopsychosocial support for individuals and families facing social vulnerability or risk. Founded in 2012, the organization grew from community outreach begun by Maria Aparecida dos Santos in São Miguel Paulista in 2003, initially supporting people experiencing homelessness. Now based in Itanhaém, Vida Livre works to uphold social rights, promote citizenship, and foster personal development and social reintegration through ongoing services, programs, and projects.
Its work includes a therapeutic community and free, specialized treatment for chemical and alcohol dependency, offered in partnership with the federal government’s Department of Drug Policies (DEPAD). The organization also provides social outreach and emergency and institutional shelter for people experiencing homelessness, as well as an integrative republic. At Residencial Lotus, it operates SAICA and Casa-Lar services to protect and support children and adolescents in vulnerable circumstances. A free program for young people aged 12 to 17 offers computer access, educational games, and social-development activities. Vida Livre emphasizes ethical, transparent, and compassionate care.
