Vignes Vivantes is an Alsace-based association that has spent 20 years bringing people in the wine industry together to share practical experience and develop knowledge about vineyard soils and terroirs. Its members include independent winegrowers, cooperative producers and wine merchants working in conventional, organic and biodynamic agriculture. Together, they focus on understanding, preserving and improving soil health so vineyards can express the character of their terroirs more precisely and responsibly.
The association’s activities cover soil knowledge, organic matter management, composting, cover crops and biodiversity. Members develop and share approaches to producing quality compost and selecting green manures that improve soil structure and fertility while helping limit erosion. Vignes Vivantes has also helped establish Alsace’s first wine-grape conservatory, supporting efforts to recover the region’s historic grape varieties.
The association offers training and provides members with documents and conference materials on soils, terroirs, cover crops and green manures. Its work brings together 102 estates farming 1,400 hectares, and it is recognised as an Economic and Environmental Interest Group (GIEE).
