Vikasku

Vikasku is a nonprofit, foundation-owned day-treatment service in Frederiksberg, Denmark, supporting school-age children and young people who cannot be included in mainstream or other special schools. Referrals are made under the Danish Social Services Act. Since 1983, Vikasku has worked with children and families facing psychosocial difficulties, developmental disorders, diagnoses, or school refusal. Its approach combines education and treatment, with flexible, individual plans tailored to each child and family.

Services include teaching, family treatment, individual conversations, family groups, parent networks, and support from employed family therapists and affiliated psychologists. Parents may participate in the school day, helping build a shared approach to the child’s needs. Vikasku also offers a 24-hour phone service and emergency response, and involves people who are important in each child’s life. Learning extends beyond the classroom through activities such as trips, time in the forest, and sports. The organisation aims to promote wellbeing, development, and learning, and states that its resources are dedicated to supporting vulnerable children, young people, and their families rather than generating private profit.
