Vínkonur

Vínkonur is an Icelandic wine company founded by friends who wanted clearer information about what was in their glasses and more options with less sugar. The company focused on importing and wholesaling carefully selected wines, chosen for quality and low sugar content. Its wines contained less than two grams of sugar per litre and were also low-carbohydrate, vegan and gluten-free; most were organic.

Vínkonur sought to work with smaller European winegrowers and family- and women-led businesses, prioritizing sustainability and organic production. The range included red, white, sparkling and rosé wines, as well as spirits. The company gathered nutritional information from producers and shared it to help customers make informed choices.

Its wines were sold exclusively to restaurants holding the relevant operating licences and to authorized alcohol wholesalers, with a minimum order of three bottles. Vínkonur has announced that it is closing its online shop because of uncertainty around the operating environment for online alcohol retailers, and thanked customers for their trust and support
