Dogs in the Past is an online archive devoted to historical images and materials about dogs. Its collection brings together more than 2,400 images, organized by era, subject, artist, and breed, helping visitors explore how dogs have appeared in human history and culture. The archive spans antiquity through the late twentieth century, with especially extensive material from the nineteenth century and early twentieth century.

Visitors can browse photographs and illustrations alongside posters, advertisements, postcards, stamps, books, newspapers, magazines, documents, medals, and videos. Themed collections cover dogs in art, hunting, military service, and police work, as well as famous dogs and notable people with their dogs. Dedicated albums feature historic publications, including works on dog breeds, training, and canine psychology. A broad breed index ranges from Afghan hounds and German shepherds to spaniels, terriers, and many regional and historical types. Search tools, author listings, random-image browsing, and recently added items make the site useful for enthusiasts, researchers, and anyone interested in the history and representation of dogs.
