Viralgen

Viralgen is an independently operated contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) specializing in adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene therapies. Founded in 2017, it is a subsidiary of AskBio within the Bayer Group and is based in San Sebastián, Spain. The company supports gene therapy developers from early research through clinical development and commercial manufacturing, with the goal of helping advance treatments for genetic diseases.

Viralgen’s services include construct optimization, platform assessment, process development, feasibility studies, and early- and late-phase production. Its proprietary suspension, triple-transfection platform uses the AskBio Pro10™ HEK293 cell line. Production and purification processes range from 100 milliliters to 2,000 liters, alongside fill-and-finish services, integrated quality control and release testing, scalability support, and regulatory assistance for CMC filings. Viralgen also offers manufacturing capacity across clinical and commercial stages, with support tailored to program needs. Its facilities include cGMP production suites, and its platform is designed to support scalable manufacturing and cost planning.
