About Viral Resistance Project
The Viral Resistance Project is a Trinity College-led research initiative aimed at understanding why some people are naturally immune to viruses. Through interrelated studies, the project has generated valuable knowledge that has informed subsequent research on viral immunity. One of their ongoing studies is the COVID-19 Resistance study, also known as DIRECTS (Detecting Innate Protection against SARS-CoV-2).
This study focuses on identifying individuals who are naturally resistant to developing COVID-19 and understanding how they achieve this resistance. There are two components to the study: DIRECTS-1, which involves St James's Hospital healthcare workers and their close household contacts, and DIRECTS-2, which involves members of the general public. The project is led by a team of experts with extensive experience in viral infection and immune responsiveness.
