About Virginia Invasive
The Virginia Invasive Plant Coalition (VIPC) is a statewide initiative focused on addressing invasive plants and supporting healthier landscapes across Virginia. A project of Blue Ridge Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management (PRISM), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, VIPC brings together community members and partners through education, collaboration, research, policy, and practical action.
Its work includes awareness and education, building collaborative networks, invasive plant removal and restoration, workforce development, research, and policy. VIPC also organizes community surveys, including an awareness survey, garden center surveys, and a survey for Virginia community associations. These efforts gather information about invasive plant management and the availability of invasive species for sale.
In 2025, VIPC conducted its first annual statewide survey of retail garden centers, with volunteers assessing 55 plant species across 86 centers in 56 cities. The results documented invasive plants found at surveyed locations, helping inform public awareness and future action. VIPC invites volunteers to help survey garden centers and encourages Virginians to participate in its community association survey.
