Matsumoto City has positioned tourism as a crucial industry and has been committed to tourism policies since 2004, establishing a tourism strategy headquarters. As part of this initiative, the 新まつもと物語 project was created, with the goal of providing enjoyable tourism information by involving citizens and individuals involved in tourism.

The project started in 2006 through collaboration between citizens and the government, and it offers various services, including service planning, content creation, and the notable Citizen Journalist Blog. These citizen journalists share their unique perspectives on the captivating charm of Matsumoto, providing a comprehensive view of the city's appeal. This project has grown beyond the internet and now includes recommended tourism courses, workshops, events, and more.
