About Florida's Space Coast
Sea Turtle season on the Space Coast runs from March 1 to October 31, and it's a particularly exciting but sensitive time. In 2022 alone, over 38,000 nests were counted on the beaches of Brevard County. From the Canaveral National Seashore to the beaches of the Sebastian Inlet, visitors and residents must be vigilant in protecting these turtles and their nests.
To participate in this amazing spectacle, you can join guided sea turtle walks offered by organizations like Friends of Sebastian Inlet State Park, Friends of the Carr Refuge, Sea Turtle Preservation Society, Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, and Stella Maris Environmental Research. During your visit, remember to follow guidelines to keep sea turtles safe, such as not touching or disturbing them, refilling holes in the sand, tearing down sandcastles, and ensuring no litter is left behind. Take care to minimize light pollution and report any injured or dead sea turtles you encounter.
The Space Coast is home to Loggerhead, Leatherback, Green, and occasionally Kemps Ridley Turtles, making it an ideal destination to learn about these remarkable creatures in their natural habitat
