Visões Úteis is a collaborative, multidisciplinary arts project based in Porto, Portugal, established in 1994. Working across the boundaries of the performing arts, it combines original artistic creation with programming, research, training and initiatives focused on developing the territory. Its work brings together different disciplines and creative voices, with projects presented as performances and, in some cases, made available through other formats.
The company’s recent creations include O diabo em mim, directed by Carlos Costa; DUPLA, an original production developed with municipal theatres in Vila Real and Matosinhos; and A Memória do Aqueduto, which explores questions around water, sanitation and access. Other works include Arraial de Quimeras, developed in partnership with Casa São Roque – Centro de Arte, and A Ilha dos Escravos. Visões Úteis also shares news about its productions and activities, offers a theatre club with annual enrolment, and circulates work beyond its home base, including presentations in London. The organisation has public-utility status and participates in cultural partnerships and networks.
