Visual Pinball Engine (VPE) is an actively developed, community-led toolkit for creating and recreating pinball machines digitally. Designed for Unity, it uses the High Definition Render Pipeline and provides editor tools to support building virtual tables. VPE can import Visual Pinball’s file format and uses Visual Pinball physics code to simulate gameplay, helping creators work with existing table content and familiar simulation behavior.

The project includes a pure C# port of Visual Pinball’s core, which provides its data layer without relying on proprietary third-party dependencies. Its broader toolkit has developed to include features such as rendering, physics, scripting, visual scripting, an asset library, and support for virtual and augmented reality, as documented through the project’s website and community updates. The repository also contains related engine, Unity, resource, and test projects, along with contribution guidance and documentation.

Started in 2019, VPE is maintained as an open-source community effort for virtual pinball enthusiasts and developers.
