About SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics
Vital-IT Computational Biology is a group of the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics, led by Mark Ibberson. It partners with academic and industry organizations on Swiss, European and international life-science projects, combining expertise in computational biology, data management and software engineering to address complex biological questions.
The group helps researchers organize, curate, harmonize and analyze large life-science datasets, including sensitive patient data and omics data such as RNA sequencing, proteomics and metabolomics. Its services include FAIR data management, data and literature curation, federated data systems, secure data sharing, omics and integrative analysis, pathway analysis, data mining and machine learning. The team also designs infrastructure and develops tailored software, web applications and user-friendly tools for accessing, analyzing and interpreting data.
Vital-IT contributes to research addressing challenges such as cancer, diabetes, childhood obesity and inherited metabolic diseases. It coordinates data management and infrastructure for major European initiatives and coordinates Switzerland’s node of the Federated European Genome-phenome Archive.
