Viva Grass

LIFE Viva Grass is a progressive initiative focused on preserving High Nature Value grasslands across the Baltic States. The project aims to combat the decline of these vital ecosystems through the development of an Integrated Planning Tool. This tool utilizes an ecosystem services approach to enhance collaboration among social, economic, and environmental sectors, facilitating sustainable management practices in grassland conservation.

Key actions include assessing grassland ecosystem services in designated areas, analyzing national policies, and creating pilot scenarios for long-term management. The project emphasizes the multifunctional uses of grasslands, highlighting their importance in rural development and biodiversity conservation. Furthermore, it addresses urgent socioeconomic factors that impact grassland viability, such as infrastructure and demographic challenges.

Implemented across nine demonstration sites and co-financed by the EU LIFE+ Programme and various environmental agencies, LIFE Viva Grass empowers communities by providing practical lessons and a user manual for the effective application of the tool. This integrated approach ensures a sustainable future for grasslands while enriching rural ecosystems and communities.
