The origins of this building date back to 1890 when it was constructed by tobacco merchants Dimitri Stavridis and Dimitri Mardas, designed by an Italian architect. Over the years, it has witnessed the creation of the first Bulgarian cigars and the rise of the United Tobacco Company, under the ownership of Italian industrialist Carlo Băkapo. However, a fire destroyed the entire establishment, only to be rebuilt through the collective donations of Plovdiv's generous citizens.

After being nationalized and housing a sewing factory for several decades, the building was left abandoned until its transformation into one of Bulgaria's most splendid and meticulously renovated structures.
