Vlinderbos Dordrecht

Stichting Herdenkingsbos De Vlinder is a Dordrecht foundation created to provide bereaved families with a peaceful, natural place to remember loved ones. Located in the De Elzen nature area in the Louise and Cannemanspolder, the memorial woodland was established in collaboration with Staatsbosbeheer, which supplies and maintains the trees. The foundation has organised planting days, giving families the opportunity to plant a tree in memory of someone who has died.

A memorial plaque may also be placed to display a name and, if desired, a short inscription. The woodland offers a quiet setting for remembrance, with benches and a paved path designed to improve access for wheelchair users. Staatsbosbeheer replaces trees that die within ten years.

The forest has grown to around 300 trees, and the foundation reports that it is full; new tree registrations and planting requests are no longer being accepted. The foundation continues to care for the memorial woodland alongside Staatsbosbeheer and welcomes enquiries by email
