De Vlinderstichting is in 1983 opgericht. De Vlinderstichting zet zich in voor bescherming van vlinders en libellen en hun leefgebieden. De Vlinderstichting geeft adviezen over beleid en beheer, om leefomstandigheden van vlinders en libellen te verbeteren. Daarnaast houdt De Vlinderstichting zich bezig met voorlichting en educatie om het belang van vlinders en libellen onder de aandacht te brengen, maar ook om draagvlak voor bescherming te creëren. Verder verzamelt De Vlinderstichting informatie over de frequentie en plek waar vlinders en libellen voorkomen en hoe dit veranderd in de tijd. Bovendien doet De Vlinderstichting onderzoek naar de oorzaken van de afname van vlinders en libellen en naar mogelijkheden om deze afname tegen te gaan. Since then, it has extended those aims to include dragonflies and day-flying moths. Furthermore, our area of activity has grown over the border, where we now work with sister organizations in Europe. Dutch Butterfly Conservation carries out research and gives advice to those responsible for deciding the use, development and management of land in all sorts of areas. We have research workers with broad experience and expertise in ecology, specialized in butterflies, moths and dragonflies, as well as nature conservation.
