The US Department of Commerce, led by Gina Raimondo, has called on the US Congress to provide more funding to the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) to address challenges posed by China. It was stated that the necessary reforms must be implemented by the Department before Congress agrees to provide funding, specifically to prevent the flow of American technology to hostile countries. BIS is the unit within the Department of Commerce responsible for export control.

Members of the US House of Representatives emphasized that simply providing resources won't address the deficiencies in US export controls. Their joint statement outlines specific measures to be taken, such as revoking export licenses for certain Chinese companies, in addition to the need for corresponding actions to demonstrate that BIS is reforming and taking necessary measures to counter China and other hostile forces. This development is part of the ongoing efforts to address national security concerns related to technology transfer and export control
