About VÖB
The Bundesverband Öffentlicher Banken Deutschlands (VÖB) is a leading association representing public banks within Germany’s financial sector. Its 64 member institutions have a combined balance sheet of approximately €3.2 trillion, accounting for around one quarter of the German banking market. Rooted in regions across the country, these banks serve small and medium-sized businesses, companies, public authorities and private customers.
The VÖB represents its members’ interests and supports them on banking, financial-market regulation, payments, digitalisation, employment law and social insurance matters. It also provides practical services, including an out-of-court consumer mediation office for civil disputes concerning financial services. Its voluntary deposit-protection fund safeguards eligible deposits beyond the statutory compensation limit of €100,000, covering individuals, businesses and municipalities.
Through news, reports, statistics, policy positions, publications and events, the association shares information on developments affecting public banking and the wider financial industry. The VÖB also participates in national and European banking forums, helping its members engage with regulatory and economic issues.
